3D OutRun confirmed for the Nintendo 3DS

20140325-063857.jpg
OutRun fans rejoice , M2 will be releasing Yu Suzuki’s classic OutRun as part of the SEGA Classics download range in full 3D.
Little is currently known as yet over at SEGA Japan Game Archives Site but as soon as more info is revealed I’ll be covering it.

Let’s hope that they can keep true to the original car with the Ferrari Testerossa and we get a release date outside of Japan.

Thanks to forever Sonic over at Twitter for highlighting the news

OutRun & Space Harrier 3D models by Sumo Digital

Back in November last year I blogged about a level in Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed where there were holograms of classic SEGA arcade machines like OutRun , Space Harrier and Hang-On.
[Below- the pic showing Sonic driving towards the OutRun Deluxe Arcade]

LAI (Leisure Allied Industries) Sitdown OutRun Arcade Machine (Updated 11/09)

This is an interesting OutRun machine and very unlike any other released.

It was manufactured at L.A.I. Perth from a kit supplied by Sega Japan.

This version was only released in Australia.

Above – the screen bezel follows a similar style to the glass surround on the Japan exclusive sitdown OutRun.

Above – the left panel has the Road map, print detailing of buttons like the std sitdown, red stripe, OutRun logo and a LAI logo (Also seen below)

Above- the rear has working light and quad exhausts like the deluxe.

So there you have it, another style of OutRun machine exclusive to Australia.

Thanks to Bruce Colbourne, M.D of Amusement Machine Distributors (Previously Sales Manager at LAI N.S.W) and also Steve Bryant International Sales Manager at Leisure & Allied Industries for their time and support trying to pull some history on this now rare arcade machine.

Yu Suzuki GameWorks Vol.1

20130630-215349.jpg
Gameworks volume 1 is a glossy Japanese released hard back book focusing on Yu Suzuki’s game history.

Release during the SEGA Dreamcast era it featured a GD-ROM with 5 of Yu’s classics sprite scalers including a version of OutRun with an unfortunately modified Ferrari.

The book is totally in Japanese so if your not familiar with Japanese the only thing you will get out of it is the game disk and the gorgeous photos and archive pictures.

So let’s take a look at some of the OutRun specific content.

20130915-133037.jpg

Below – The book featured a first time release of a drawing of the Standard sit down arcade.

This was then accurately presented at the 1986 Jamma Show in Japan (Below)

As you can see below The original drawing seen in the book varies to the production cabinet. The production version dropped the OutRun writing from the base.

There’s also a nice concept drawing of the what the Deluxe cabinet may of turned out like (Below)

Think I prefer the final production design.

There are some nice photos of the machines too and they are in perfect condition.

I picked up this japanese book when it was first released for ยฃ70 from a Video Games Importer in the UK.
You can still pick it up now from Specialist import shops or eBay.
The price hasn’t changed too much over the years, you can still grab it from ยฃ70 – ยฃ100.
