Check out this cool looking mini arcade machine with SEGA Outrun artwork. Who wouldn’t want one of these.
We’ve seen a couple of really cool minis in the past from Steve Carpenter using the GBA SEGA Arcade Gallery and one from mini arcade extraordinaire Luchio. You can fun both of these within the sites past News.
Just thought I would share my recent OutRun item that I picked up at Auction.
It’s a 1986 SEGA game card from the 24th Amusement Show in Japan.
This show was where SEGA first showed OutRun to the press and public and the card could be dispensed from a vending machine and used from credits within the SEGA stand.
I think SEGA released this as part of a series of game catalogues for the Mark III. Each one would feature new release games and include the current catalogue of games available.
I really love the Japanese artwork on these catalogues.
If your looking for an Outrun restoration project here’s the benchmark!
Check out the Facebook page of Dave Penfold and his OutRun Restoration Page
On the page you find Dave’s love for OutRun goes beyond a lot of fans. Not only does he want to restore the machine to mint condition, he wants to go a little beyond the original.
All of the working parts, inner wire harnesses etc have been either cleaned or replaced with NOS or chromed.
This machine looks to be an OutRun fans dream.
Here’s a few of my favorite photos, but check out his Facebook page for the OutRun restoration journey.
Beautiful chrome pedals and foot surrounds and new floor matting.
Steering assembly fully stripped, cleaned and replaced where needed.
The steering wheel has been covered in leather and professional hand stitched.
The cabinet has been sanded down and professionally painted, new decals and treated coin door.
Good luck with the rest of the project Dave, I can’t wait to see the finished OutRun restoration project, awesome work!
Today Sonic AllStar Racing Transformed has been released on the App Store including Ryo and his drivable OutRun cabinet.
I’ve picked the game up on the the iPhone 5s to give it a try. Below are some pics of the vehicle from different angles.
To unlock Ryo and the OutRun car you need to complete a full string of weekly challenges….so hopefully if I chip away at it this week I should be able to unlock the OutRun car and do a further update.
Above – the weekly challenge screen.
UPDATE – 6 days to go and hopefully we can unlock this cool Character and Drivable OutRun Cabinet!!
Finally unlocked the final Challenge
Here some nice screen grabs before the race kicks off
Over the next week I should get the chance to play the game with these classic SEGA arcade cabinets as my racer with Ryo as the character.
I’ll hopefully have more photos soon 👍
