Awesome Mini OutRun Cabinet

Check out this cool looking mini arcade machine with SEGA Outrun artwork. Who wouldn’t want one of these.

We’ve seen a couple of really cool minis in the past from Steve Carpenter using the GBA SEGA Arcade Gallery and one from mini arcade extraordinaire Luchio. You can fun both of these within the sites past News.

Recent OutRun pick up

Just thought I would share my recent OutRun item that I picked up at Auction.
It’s a 1986 SEGA game card from the 24th Amusement Show in Japan.

This show was where SEGA first showed OutRun to the press and public and the card could be dispensed from a vending machine and used from credits within the SEGA stand.

Here’s a write up from a while back HERE

SEGA Joy Joy Magazine May 1987 issue No 10

I think SEGA released this as part of a series of game catalogues for the Mark III. Each one would feature new release games and include the current catalogue of games available.
I really love the Japanese artwork on these catalogues.

Play ARCADE OutRun on your Wrist Watch

Today I came across this pretty
cool Smart Watch that let’s you play OutRun using a Bluetooth controller. Outrun runs by installing MAME and the correct OutRun rom.

Features of the actual phone include-
Android Smart Phone OS
1.54 Inch Touch Screen Display
Camera
Dual Core CPU
Bluetooth

Check out the video below of it in action with OutRun. Is this the smallest arcade version of OutRun so far??

OutRun Restoration Project by Ray Barley (Aus)

Ray picked up an Australian LAI OutRun cabinet this year when he saw it on Gumtree going cheap. Here’s some pictures of the condition when he picked it up.

As you can see the whole machine needed a good clean, the side art was shot and some of the features like the screen bezel and steering wheel emblem need work.

Several months later Ray sent me these photo and I was amazed at the transformation.

It’s great to see a good clean upright LAI with the red side panels , front coin and pedal surround variation, there’s definitely not many left around.

OutRun Restoration Project by Dave Penfold (UK)

If your looking for an Outrun restoration project here’s the benchmark!
Check out the Facebook page of Dave Penfold and his OutRun Restoration Page

On the page you find Dave’s love for OutRun goes beyond a lot of fans. Not only does he want to restore the machine to mint condition, he wants to go a little beyond the original.

All of the working parts, inner wire harnesses etc have been either cleaned or replaced with NOS or chromed.
This machine looks to be an OutRun fans dream.
Here’s a few of my favorite photos, but check out his Facebook page for the OutRun restoration journey.

Good luck with the rest of the project Dave, I can’t wait to see the finished OutRun restoration project, awesome work!

To unlock Ryo and the OutRun car you need to complete a full string of weekly challenges….so hopefully if I chip away at it this week I should be able to unlock the OutRun car and do a further update.
